Shunya on Guru Shishya

Q: How can one find the right Guru in this era where spirituality has become a business ?

Ans: There is a Tibetan saying that goes ‘when the disciple is ready, the master will come’. The average person is usually not spiritually mature enough to discern as to whom to choose as a spiritual guide. To test someone, one has to be of a higher caliber than the other person. The relationship between a student and Guru is unconditional and transcends religion or any other kind of discriminations. It is pure and focused on spiritual growth. One must not seek a guru but patiently wait to be found.

Q: IS a guru necessary for the path of spirituality?

Ans: Having a teacher to guide us in any field is invaluable. Since people are struggling with time in today’s World, to absorb knowledge and wisdom from a master rather than being self- taught, makes the chances of trial and error less. Like how we need to go to school to educate ourselves in spite of books being available in the market, similarly, having a Guru is like going to spiritual school. It is a blessing to have a teacher who propagates what he/she has mastered and guides us in our journey. In the world of spiritual science, a Guru is one who has authority in the field of spirituality and has access to the Universal mind and intellect
